Savers is no ordinary thrift store. As a leader and pioneer in the retail thrift industry we're a place where people from all backgrounds love to shop for great selection, deals, and treasures. And because, truly - there is adventure in the Savers experience.

Over our 54 year history, shoppers have come to expect fun and surprise with each visit to our stores. We make it easy to find bargains on every aisle and our stores are filled with current looks, authentic vintage finds, housewares, collectibles, furniture and unexpected treasures at every turn. Thousands of items arrive every day through our many nonprofit alliances so no two shopping trips are ever the same. Our incredible inventory includes not only unique, quality used items - but new merchandise as well, including closeouts on great items not found at other thrift stores.

Our Customers

Our customers tell us our value is defined not only by low prices, variety, and quality - but by the fun we offer. We're constantly reinventing ourselves and that is driven by what our customers tell us is important. Unlike other large retailers, we're a privately operated chain and take pride in getting to know our customers. Many of our customers and team members know each other on a first name basis and we love nothing more than listening to what they can teach us about the "art of thrifting."

Our Business Model

Savers was founded in 1954 on principles such as giving back and providing opportunities - and those are core values we are still committed to embracing today. Our over 120 Nonprofit Alliances share our values and inspire us with their work. Partnering with local charities is not a byproduct of our business - it's how we do business. So when you shop at Savers you help support not just one, but many local community programs.

Our Recycling Commitment

Did you know that every year, the average American throws away 67.9 pounds of used clothing and rags? In the U.S. alone, this translates to twenty billion pounds of used clothing and textiles tossed into landfills each year. When you shop at Savers, you help the environment. Our recycling program prevented 262 million pounds of unsold merchandise from ending up in landfills last year by reselling domestically and internationally where the goods could benefit people in need. History

The genesis of the creative and successful Savers business model was in 1954, when founder William O. Ellison opened his first store in San Francisco, California. Mr. Ellison's grandfather and great uncle, Ben and Orlo Ellison, were instrumental in building the Salvation Army's thrift organization in the 1930's and '40s.

By 1970, the San Francisco store became a chain and its headquarters moved north to the Seattle, WA area. Savers, Inc. went international in 1980 when it opened its first Canadian store on Hastings Street in Vancouver, B.C. called Value Village.

In the last 50+ years we've grown to more than 200 stores, and have paid over a billion dollars to our non-profit alliances, while achieving positive sales growth totaling over 550 million dollars. Savers, Inc. is the parent company of TVI, Inc. doing business as Value Village Stores, Inc., Savers, Village des Valeurs, Savers Australia Pty, Ltd. and Savers Recycling, Inc. We employ more than 10,000 team members throughout the United States, Canada and Australia and have an optimistic plan for future growth.
