Boscombe, thank you: This Easter, Boscombe residents have joined forces with Sovereign Shopping Centre to bring a little cheer to children in hospital by donating over 170 eggs to the Amelia Grace Rainbow Fund.

There’s never a nice time for a child to be in hospital but around the various holidays, where friends are enjoying time off making memories, there are children who have no choice but to stay in hospital. A fact not lost on Chantel Cox, Founder of Amelia Grace Rainbow Fund, whose daughter passed away following Stage 4 Neuroblastoma – A very aggressive form of childhood cancer.

Following Amelia’s diagnosis at just seven years old, her family and friends did everything they could to create some incredible memories for their little girl but at just eight years old she passed away peacefully. Over 650 children and adults attended her rainbow themed funeral marking the inception of the Amelia Grace Rainbow Fund.

Today the charity creates opportunities for other children and adults to experience some of the treats Amelia had, creating memories for other families to cherish. The fund supports over 400 children in Dorset who are suffering from terminal, life-limiting and serious chronic illness.

Chantel Cox, Founder of the Amelia Grace Rainbow Fund comments, “The eggs will be distributed between Poole hospital childrens unit and to some of the families we have supported locally. It’s always hard to be in hospital, but its particularly hard to be in hospital at holiday time when your friends and family are enjoying the break and you cannot be at home. This is our way of making their time a little easier by providing a smile to the families. For those who cannot eat or have chocolate we provide gifts.”

Chantel continues, “Thank you so much to everyone who has supported this years appeal. The children and their families are truly grateful for the kindness and generosity of the local community and we hope to continue to support them with your help in the future.”

Whilst shopping in the centre, residents purchased an extra egg and dropped it off in the collection point at The Works. BB’s Coffee and Muffins were so touched by the appeal they baked and donated a selection of special limited edition Easter muffins.

Peter Ruscoe, Sovereign Shopping Centre Manager comments, “Thank you. We’re overwhelmed by the generosity of Boscombe residents and organisations who have donated a fantastic amount of eggs to our appeal. Thanks to your donations, over 170 children in hospital will smile this Easter, receiving a chocolate egg.”
